"First Edition of the Aigües de Barcelona Data Challenge”

The first edition of Aigües de Barcelona Data Challenge was a collaborative event designed to drive interdisciplinary innovation using remote reading data from Aigües de Barcelona. In alliance with universities and research centers in Catalonia, the challenge focuses on using technology to respond to emerging challenges in the metropolitan area of Barcelona.

The data available to participants covers the years 2019, 2020 and 2021. Of all the proposals, 115 in total, 15 were selected in a first round and, in the end, only 6 projects reached the finalist stage. The event encouraged the ethical and responsible use of data, with a focus on generating positive social and territorial impact.

Among the six finalist projects, the inclusion of the project of Enzo Longobucco de CD4IoT. This achievement is especially significant given that Longobucco was the only participant, among 115, to compete individually, highlighting his exceptional merit in an event that celebrates collaboration and innovation.

Project summary:

The project focuses on the use of ensemble learning to generate water consumption prediction models. These models take specific data from Aigües de Barcelona and contextualize it with other relevant factors to make more accurate predictions.

The main objective of the project is to improve water use efficiency through data-driven decision making. Longobucco identified that the company's data was more reliable for its models than public data, and has applied this approach to predict water consumption in different areas and dates.

This project has applications for both energy efficiency and consumer empowerment in water consumption management. Longobucco together with CD4IOT, continue working on their projects, with plans to adapt it for other uses, including projects related to air quality.
